Market Price Ticker
What the county's markets are paying
Five coordinating markets, published as market-level ranges. A directory tells a buyer who exists. A price series tells them what a market is doing.

Market days, principal commodities and catchment are not published for these markets yet. They are particulars the Chapter confirms with the County Department of Trade alongside the collection method, and this page will carry them when it can carry them with a source. It does not carry a guess in the meantime.
No prices are published yet
Collection begins with the first certified ambassador cohort — one ambassador per coordinating market, paid per verified submission rather than by attendance, which is what makes a daily series sustainable without a permanent field team.
Until then this page publishes nothing. A price ticker that opens with invented numbers has spent the only thing it had to sell.
What each series will carry
- Market
- One of the five coordinating markets
- Commodity
- As the market trades it
- Unit
- The unit the market actually uses, never converted
- Range
- A low and a high across the market that day
- Collection date
- The day it was read, not the day it was published
- Ambassador
- The certified collector’s ID, never a name
- Verification
- Verified, submitted or disputed
Download the series as CSV — headers only, until collection begins.
Ranges, never transactions
This ticker publishes a band across a market on a day. It does not publish what any individual grower accepted, and the data model has no field in which it could.
That is a safeguard, not a formatting choice. Publishing a smallholder's farmgate price hands their negotiating position to a larger buyer who can read it before walking up the hill. The instrument exists to raise the floor, so it is built so that it cannot lower it.
Every series pairs with its value addition
-
Tea
Green leaf sold at the collection centre and graded, blended or packed tea sold to a buyer are two different products at two different prices. The gap between them is the county's largest single value-addition opportunity, and it is captured at the factory rather than at the farm.
-
Coffee
Cherry, parchment and green bean are three prices for one harvest. Milling, grading and a traceable lot identity are what move a cooperative from the first to the third.
-
Avocado
Export grade is a specification, not a quality: size, dry matter, maturity and traceability to the block. A grower who can evidence those is selling into a different market from one selling loose fruit at the gate.
-
Macadamia
Nut-in-shell and kernel are separated by drying, cracking and grading. The processing step is where the margin sits, and it is a plant investment rather than an agronomic one.
-
Dairy
Raw milk is a commodity with hours of shelf life. Chilling, testing and bulking convert it into a product with a contract behind it, and the collection point is where that conversion has to happen.
-
Banana
Ripening control, grading and packaging are the difference between a bunch sold at a roadside and a graded carton sold to a retailer on a standing order.
-
Soapstone and minerals
Raw block, dressed stone and finished article are three markets. The finished article carries the design and the provenance story, and it is the only one of the three that travels well.
-
Construction materials
Consistent dimension, tested strength and a delivery schedule are what let a producer sell to a contractor rather than to a passer-by. The certification is the product.
Corrections and disputes about a published range route to the Chapter Secretariat at nyamira@kenyachamber.or.ke. A disputed reading stays visible and is marked disputed rather than quietly removed.
